We identified that there was a need for a
Grievance Management system as opposed to a tracking system
which is how the problem had been approached before. The
system would have to manage the workflow and timelines of a
grievance, pulling from business rules generated from the
Collective Agreement. It should have the ability to
standardize the use of language for Claims and Redresses.
It needed to be to be able to reference Articles and Clauses
from the Collective Agreement within the grievance form.
All this had to be done simply and automatically. The
biggest weakness we found was in the Locals inability to
report on grievances, both past and present. This stemmed
from the lack of a centralized database of grievances. In
fact it was discovered that in many cases, when a Local
elects a new Executive, it would in effect, lose its
collective memory.
With the major features identified, along
with continuing consultations with Union Representatives as well
as the Executives of several large Locals, we set out to build
such an application. The first version was released in 2002,
and although far superior to existing systems, it needed
further refinement, additional flexibility and features to be
broadly accepted by Locals.
LabourWare has taken up the challenge, and
with our most recent release which adds multilingual and
grievance research capabilities to an already impressive list of
features, we will become the resource that Labour Unions have
been searching for.
LabourWare is the culmination of ten years
of working with Union Staff Reps, three years of research
and development geared towards building the most powerful,
flexible and easy to use grievance management system, and
countless discussions Labour activists and leaders. With the addition of two former senior
union executives to our team, we have a formidable combination
of experience, technical skill and in-depth client
knowledge.
LabourWare is a full service Web
Application Development and Services Company. It sprung from
a need first identified by Gabriel Louli while providing
software training to Union Representatives. This need was for
software that more closely followed the workflow of both
Union Reps and Locals. It had to be easy by design – as many
Union Executives are new to technology and leery of its
abilities. Rather than having to teach users how to use our
software – we needed to program our software to work in the
way Reps and Local Executives worked.
LabourWare – dedicated to providing
innovative Web Based Applications, Services and Training to
Labour Unions, helping them achieve autonomy in maintaining
their own web and data content, allowing them to control the
flow of information, time and money. Our applications are
designed to be easy to use, provide powerful features and
are affordable to acquire.
