What is the difference between
applications for Unions and other applications? First
they must be easy to use. They must be written from
the perspective of a union member, as opposed to an existing
application which has been modified to accomplish Union
tasks.
The applications must be accessible, they
should be multilingual by design. they need to be
affordable to acquire and maintain. They must be
supported by a skilled team which understands the Union
culture, and for the most part adheres to it as well.
The applications must be built to serve
the individual member through the Local Executive they
elected. It should provide a means to save money not a
conduit to spend it. It needs to be a facilitator of
information not an obstacle to it. It must continually
improve, using the power of the collective to be better,
smarter, friendlier.
We have
used our knowledge of Oracle Financials and SAP to enhance the
applications we build. We have integrated features found
in these multi million dollar enterprise systems into every
application we build - then made them affordable by building
them onto an Open Source Architecture. Enterprise power
at an accessible price.
In all these ways an application built for
Unions must help to level the playing field - bridging the gap
between Employers with vast resources and members fighting for
a fair share.
